Neil Gaiman / Rose Walker quote about how horrible love is

ihatelove Neil Gaiman / Rose Walker quote about how horrible love is

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up a whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life... You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' or 'how very perceptive' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. Nothing should be able to do that. Especially not love. I hate love. ” ~ The character "Rose Walker" in The Sandman #65

So true, yet...why live without love? Live without feeling that wonderful feeling? Love hurts...and most of the time it doesn't work out the first time yet theres always more, don't close yourself up just because you got hurt, whats life without a lil pain?

  7. Loge says:

I just went through heartbreak and I totally understand this, it makes all the right perfect sense. I feel like in the society we live in today, girls are meant to believe that, you must cry and go through heartache and mental torture just to find that one guy, your soulmate. It's insane, yet I do it, I go through it everyday.

  8. Marc says:

that which does not kill me makes me stronger. I am stronger so that I may hold her in one arm and wipe away her tears with the other.

    • Rose says:

It is April 2013 and I was feeling a little pain in my heart, Until I read what Marc wrote...You gave me faith in love and romance again.

  9. Neil says:

True, for every person that finds true love there are dozens destroyed by love, it is malicious. It builds your hopes and quells your fears then just when you think 'I belong' it rips your heart out and says 'but I still want to be your friend.

Its like your parents telling you your dog is dead, but you can still keep it.

  10. Jar says:

To the damaged heart, love is the devil's playground. Forget about it. There is only repeated crash & burn. Heal yourself somehow and get in touch with the love that is actually within you, which only appears to come from another person while you are in a state of disconnectedness, hurting and hating yourself. It doesn't come from someone else when you "fall" for someone. This is illusion. They only trigger what you have lost touch with inside yourself.
