loneliness is cold
airport goodbyes,
teary-eyed parting words
don’t forget your dad’s birthday
and remember to feed the cats
will you miss me?
wanting to be reassured
and to reassure.
muzak in the background
while you smile
and try not to let them
see the tears in your eyes,
goodbye,
we say
and part.
